Stan Zurkiewicz (CEO DEKRA)
Reflecting on an inspiring day at Hashtag#HydrogenWeek2024 in Brussels, where I had the privilege of participating in a compelling panel discussion on the Digital Product Passport (DPP).
The exchange underscored the transformative potential of the DPP to drive transparency, interoperability between different regulatory and certification schemes, and sustainability across industries. The DPP aims to create transparency across product value chains by providing essential information about product origins, materials, environmental impact, and circularity. It is set to become a cornerstone of the EU’s commitment to a greener future.
My key takeaways from the panel discussion:
Bridging regulatory frameworks: The DPP has the potential to simplifying compliance for businesses while enabling seamless global trade.
Data integrity is non-negotiable: Trust in reliable, independently verified data is fundamental to the success of the DPP. Without it, achieving transparency and compliance is impossible.
Hydrogen’s unique role: Although a hydrogen-specific DPP is not yet proposed, a Digital Hydrogen Passport could streamline compliance across fragmented regulations, improving bankability and investment in the hydrogen sector.
At DEKRA, we are committed to supporting this transformation by ensuring the accuracy and trustworthiness of the data that underpins the DPP. Our expertise in verification and certification is a key enabler for the successful adoption of this tool across industries.
A special thank you to our moderator Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, session’s keynote speaker Gerassimos Thomas and my fellow panelists for their invaluable insights Susana Moreira, Ivana Jemelkova, Silke Obst, and Dr. Prasad Chaphekar,.
Let’s continue to shape the future of sustainable industries together!
